Description
Model 817 combines the functions of a frame grabber, JPEG encoder, and 16 X 4 video crosspoint switch on a single PCI Express card (x1). It is capable of capturing full-resolution color JPEG images and monochrome uncompressed bitmaps (for efficient motion detection) from sixteen video input channels at full NTSC/PAL frame rates. Frames are processed at a rate of 30 fps on each channel, resulting in an aggregate throughput of 480 fps. The board performs hardware JPEG compression to offload this computational burden from the host computer and reduce the amount of disk space required to store images.
Input Channels
The 817 has sixteen identical video processing channels that operate in parallel. Each channel captures raw video frames from one input and optionally downscales the frames before further processing them. If desired, a single-line caption (up to 80 characters) may be overlaid onto the frames and the frame rate may be reduced. The processed frames are converted to both color JPEG and monochrome uncompressed bitmap images, and then made available for transmission to the PCI Express host computer.
Crosspoint Switch
The board's built-in 16 X 4 analog crosspoint video switch can simultaneously connect each of the four outputs to any one of the sixteen inputs. This flexible switching fabric has many applications; for example, one input may be routed to multiple outputs to implement a video splitter. The unit can also be used to select alternate video sources on the fly in video editing applications and small broadcast studios. Each of the four video outputs can be individually turned on or off, which allows for the connection of multiple 817s to the same monitor.
Deinterlacing
Model 817 is capable of performing advanced video deinterlacing to reduce motion artifacts in captured JPEG images. Deinterlacing is performed by hardware so that the host computer is not burdened with this task.
Accessories
Sensoray offers several breakout boards that route the 817's video signals to standard connectors. Click the Accessories tab for information on the available boards.
Accessories
A termination box is recommended for interfacing video signals to the 817, along with a cable, model 609C1 or 817C1 (both video in), to connect the 817 to the termination box. Sensoray offers the following termination boxes:
Model 817TAS is an indispensable tool for application development and troubleshooting with Sensoray's 16-channel frame grabbers (models 615, 617, 817, and 819). The 817TAS splits a standard composite TV video signal (BNC connector) into 16 buffered outputs of standard amplitude and impedance. The outputs are connected to a 34-pin ribbon cable connector that is compatible with all of the above-mentioned frame grabbers. A combination of models 817TAS and 609TC/TE/TG yields a splitter with 16 BNC outputs.
Model 609TA-ND provides sixteen BNCs for inputs and eight BNCs for video output; also requires cable 609C2 (video out).
Model 609TC provides sixteen BNCs for camera connections and is 2U height
Model 609TE provides sixteen BNCs for camera connections and fits in the space of a PC's CD player
Model 609TG supports thirty-two camera connections and is 2U height for 19" enclosure
