Sensoray USB Device Stops Working After Some Time on Windows 10

This may be an issue with USB power management. It is not necessarily a Sensoray device problem. It may be a hub or USB chip issue upstream from the Sensoray USB device.

To diagnose this problem, run Debug View. http://www.sensoray.com/wiki/index.php?title=Debugging_With_Debug_View. If you see "Suspending" or similar power management messages, this issue may be occurring. It may also occur without any messages shown.

Microsoft has some suggested solutions here: link title. The first two suggestions may only work temporarily. In this case, it is recommended to use Method 3. However, instead of editing the registry as suggested in the link above, please disable USB selective suspend from the Windows 10 Additional advanced power options as shown below.

1. In Control Panel, navigate to Power Options.
2. For your active power plan, click Change plan settings.
3. Click Change advanced power settings.
4. Expand USB settings
   1. -USB settings
   2. - USB Selective suspend setting
   3. -Setting: Set to Disable
5. Click apply to change the setting

The Driver Won't Load on New Win 7 Installation (prior to SP1)

Most Sensoray drivers are digitally signed with an authenticode code signing certificate. Before SP1, Windows 7 only supported SHA-1 signed drivers. SHA-1 certificates and drivers, however, are now obsolete. Sensoray uses a SHA-256 code signing certificate. If Windows 7 64-bit (prior to SP1) is newly installed and Windows Updates is turned off, there may be an error about driver signing in the control panel for the device. Please note that new Win7 SP1 installations may require KB3033929 from Microsoft for SHA-256 support.

The recommended resolution is to turn on Windows Updates. Microsoft has a KB fix for SHA-256 support on Windows 7, but it requires SP1 to be installed. This should not be an issue because for security reasons, it is not recommended to run Windows 7 without updates. Below are some solutions to resolve the signing issue on original Windows 7 versions without disabling signed drivers (not recommended).

Option A

1. Turn on Windows Updates
2. Install all Updates

Option B

1. Install Windows 7 SP1
2. Apply KB3033929 manually (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=46148) or from Windows Updates.
